Frequently asked questions
How did Reign get started?
Carol “Nooby” Noonan founded Reign with a small, invitation-only team for the class of 2027, which was competing in tournaments by 2021. The club later added the 2032 team, followed by the 2029 and 2034 teams in 2026, when John Finegan became director of coaching. Some of the original players have helped coach and mentor younger teams.
Which teams are part of Reign?
Teams are organized by high-school graduation year: 2027, 2029, 2032 and 2034.
Where are your players from?
Most of our players are from the Portland area. We also have players from elsewhere in Oregon, including Hood River and Bend.
Does Reign hold tryouts?
Reign is invitation-only and does not hold tryouts.
Can players play other sports?
Yes. Reign strongly supports multisport athletes. Coaches plan training with other sports in mind, while players also make a commitment to their Reign teammates.
How much do you practice?
We aim for plenty of touches, with older teams generally practicing more than younger teams. The 2029 team, for example, practices three or more days a week outside the high school lacrosse season and once a week during it.
Weekend practices are common so players can focus on other high school sports during the week. Current schedules are in the Team App.
How many tournaments do you do? Do you go out East?
Each team decides together how many tournaments to attend and where to go, weighing the options and tradeoffs for its players and families. East Coast travel is common, especially for older teams, but each team makes its own decision.
What is the tournament commitment?
Tournaments are planned many months ahead, and players are expected to attend. Small teams rely on each player being there for their teammates.
Is Reign expensive?
We keep team fees down despite frequent practices by spending almost entirely on coaches and fees. The books are open to all club members, so families can see where the money goes. Tournament travel can still be expensive.
How is the club run?
Reign is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with volunteer administration. Club fees support coaching, fields and team activities.
